Traction equipment for first Solaris Electric Bus from Vossloh Kiepe

Environmentally friendly technology:Vossloh Kiepe delivers innovative electric traction equipment for the first Solaris Electric Bus

The Polish bus manufacturer Solaris has hired Vossloh Kiepe to supply the electric traction equipment and the energy management systems for their first completely electrically operated bus. This modern low-floor vehicle based on the 8.9 metre Alpino LE Midibuses.
This environmentally friendly vehicle can be 100% operated without any combustion engine. Energy storage occurs via lithium ion batteries which stores for example brake energy. A plug-in connector with an on-board charger is also integrated into the vehicle, which allows for charging the batteries using common 400V AC sockets (63 A). This has the advantage of being able to be recharged without any infrastructural adaptations – keeping investment costs low.

This single-axis vehicle is driven via one 120 kilowatt asynchronous motor.
The Vossloh-Kiepe Advanced Energy Management controls the energy flux between battery storage, drive train and battery charging unit.

Based on optimal power supply usage, it is possible to use the buses in city operation between six and seven hours without needing to recharge the batteries.
