Two electric buses from Solaris Bus & Coach and Vossloh Kiepe handed over to Rheinbahn in Düsseldorf

Passenger operation has begun:
On September 26, 2014 two battery buses were handed over to Rheinbahn AG, the public transport company in Düsseldorf. Only three days later the new buses began to transport passengers.

In this project the traction specialist Vossloh Kiepe was responsible for the innovative electric technology of the modern, 12 m long standard buses of the type “Urbino 12 electric” from Solaris Bus & Coach. The Düsseldorf company supplied the traction equipment with a central asynchronous motor and the on-board power supply system for the environment-friendly Urbinos. At present, the electric vehicles are charged overnight in the depot of the Rheinbahn AG in Düsseldorf-Benrath by way of a plug connection. The lithium ion batteries have a capacity of 210 kWh at 660 V.

Solaris Bus & Coach and Vossloh Kiepe have now realised many successful battery bus projects together and are very happy that just Düsseldorf – headquarters of Vossloh Kiepe – is the first city in North Rhine-Westphalia that has decided to operate the electric buses of the partners and to test the performance of this state-of-the-art technology.
