Hannover TW3000: New high-floor light rail vehicles—Vissloh Kiepe the consortium

Delivery: 2013-2014

The biggest procurement since the Expo: the new urban light rail vehicles ordered by üstra Hannoversche Verkehrsbetriebe AG. The new TW3000 vehicles will replace the 30-year-old TW6000.

A consortium consisting of Vossloh Kiepe GmbH (head) and ALSTOM Transport Deutschland was awarded a contract for 50 light rail vehicles along with an option for 96. The first fifty will be shipped out in 2013 and 2014.

The 25-m vehicles feature 2 Motor bogies and 1 Trailer Bogies, 6 doors, a state-of-the-art passenger information system as well as HVAC for both driver and passenger compartments. The units will operate on the existing lines including in 3-traction mode for the high-level platforms extending along a length of 68 to 70 m. The vehicles themselves are bidirectional for flexible (dis)connection. The platforms have already been converted and so no steps are required. The newcomers consume a lot less energy than their predecessors. They will run on lines 3 and 7.

The stylish design is a further development of the positive elements of the silver-colored TW2000 and the green TW6000 light rail vehicles and is the outcome of close cooperation with the designers.

As consortium head Vossloh Kiepe GmbH is responsible for the electrical equipment; Heiterblick, for the mechanical components. Final assembly and commissioning will be carried out at the Lower Saxony plant of ALSTOM Deutschland GmbH in Salzgitter.
